Abstract:
Studio portraits dating from about 1865 to about 1910. Some of the earliest are from studios in Augusta, Maine. Snapshots
from the early 20th century of family, home, farms, and countryside in Sierra Valley, California, including the Jacob Stiner
homestead and a Stiner home called Owl's Nest. Locations in or near Eagleville and Cedarville are noted. Arthur and Maude
Stiner are mentioned in some captions. A few group portraits of students are present.

Jacob and Rachel Stiner were Jewish pioneers who moved from Ohio to California in 1852. They had five children: Alice, Henry,
Ruth Ann, Mary and Albert. Their granddaughter Ina Stiner, was a teacher, librarian and historian in Porterville, Calif.
